The New Pinto? No, but maybe it should be.
UK Ford Fusion MPV, this should be the new Pinto. I've seen this car up close and personal and it would be a great addition to the US Market mix. They could call it the Pinto. It's a sturdy little car/wagon with two gas and two diesel engines available in the UK.

The Pinto name should never be ressurrected by Ford again. It is a name, whether you liked the car or not, that would predetermine any worthwhile vehicle to failure. The only name worse that they could try to market, would be Edsel.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, you know what they say, opinions are like assholes, everyone has one.
But a more mature asnwer to this comment would be this;
If the Pinto name was so dammaged, then why so many years after the gas tank incidents did Ford continue to sell them? And why so many? Check the facts, the Pinto was a great car and sold well for it's 10 years. Besides, if automotive history has shown us anything, it has shown us that nothing stays gone forever, look at all the other name plates that have come back; Beetle, Charger, Mini and Malibu. Pinto may not be damaged goods as name. Besides, this is only my opinion, and like I said anyone can have their opinion. So there!
You are wrong. It is not an opinion that Pinto would be destined to failure. It is fact. It is not just a matter of bringing back an old name, it is the stigma that went along with it. Deserved or not. Corvair, Pinto, Edsel are among some of the automotive names that will never come back regardless of the original cars positive virtues. The fact is, the negative publicity would insure it's failure. Why would Ford want to even take the risk of putting a car worth marketing in the US on dealership floors with anything less than an effort without controversy? All of the names you mention are being resurrected because of their individual POSITIVE history. They don't have anything to overcome. As you post on your website, their are many other names in Ford's closet that would fit the bill. How about Festiva, Falcon, Comet, Escort etc. It is wonderful that you enjoyed your Pinto, I am sure many people did, but it was not a "great car" it was a transitional car that fit a need at the time. These aren't opinions, they are facts. You have offered the opinions and I hope Ford doesn't listen to you on this one, or they will lose more ground as you described in your post about your Ranger.
